Engineering
Founding Engineer, Medication Intelligence
Own the path a medication name or a label photo takes through Dosely: reading the label, matching it to a real medication, explaining it plainly, and the guardrails that keep Dosely to information and never a dose.
- Location
- Boston, MA or remote in the US
- Type
- Full time
- Compensation
- $170,000 to $205,000 plus 0.35% to 0.85% equity
Dosely reads a medication name or a photo of a label, explains in plain language what the medication is generally for and the side effects worth knowing, builds a calm reminder schedule, and flags pairs of a person's medications worth reviewing with a pharmacist. The medication pipeline is the product: everything between a person entering a name and a plain, trustworthy card.
You would be the fourth engineer. The work decides whether people trust Dosely with something that matters. A card that reads a dose off a label, or nudges someone to change a medication, is worse than no card at all, and holding that line is what this role is responsible for.
What you would own
- Make label reading survive real inputs: crumpled bottles, bad light, generic and brand names, and pharmacy stickers over the printed box.
- Own the dosing scrub and the safety guardrails that strip any amount or instruction before it ever reaches a person.
- Keep a whole medication list inside one request so interaction review sees the full picture.
- Own the evaluation set. Every prompt change is measured against real medication names and labels with known good outputs before it ships.
- Cut the cost per explanation without cutting the quality, which mostly means routing better rather than prompting differently.
What we are looking for
- Five or more years building backend systems that other people depend on.
- You have worked with language and vision models in production and have opinions about evaluation that came from being burned by bad outputs.
- You write TypeScript comfortably, or you will within a fortnight of starting.
- You care about the difference between a demo that impresses and a thing an older person relies on to get their day right.
How hiring runs
A thirty-minute call with a founder, then a paid work session on a real problem from our backlog (three to four hours), then conversations with two people you would work alongside. Four steps, usually inside two weeks, and we tell you where you stand at every one.
